AN OPEN LETTER TO STUDENTS APPEARING FOR HSC & SSC EXAMINATION

My dear kids,
Lots of love and blessings. Some of you have already begun writing your crucial HSC exams while some of you must be preparing for your SSC exams to be started soon. I extend my whole hearted wishes and love to you all.I am sure you all are well prepared for the exams. In case not, then this letter is for you.

The reason behind me writing this letter to you is, since the day HSC exams began I have been reading about children succumbing to the pressure of exams and a large number of students being caught cheating during exams, in newspapers.

It is very disturbing and disheartening. I just want to tell you that stress is good as long as it keeps you motivated to carry on your journey and can be helpful in achieving your objective. And it should be allowed to rent a space in your mind up to that extent only. Shun the stress immediately as soon as it starts taking over your mind. Do not succumb to the pressure and give in. Committing suicide is not the solution to any problem in the world.

If you are under pressure because you feel that you won’t be able to make it in the exams, instead of taking drastic steps like committing suicide or escaping from your loved ones please take some time just to relax and do this exercise-

1) Choose a place where you can concentrate.
2) Carry along a diary, pen and a highlighter.
3) Keep your mobile phone off so as to avoid disturbance. (Keep you family members informed that you will be busy few hours with very important task).
4) Start a backward journey from this day to the very first day when the academic year began and keep noting in your diary as the ideas and images from past flash through your mind.
5) Once you have reached the very first day of the academic year, now start reading your diary and finish to the end.
6) Try to find out the reasons which have resulted to this situation.
7) Remember to highlight the points which give you insights.
8) Once you have zeroed in on those points, the actual journey begins.
9) Now you need some rethinking. Take the points one by one, think; what else you could have done in those situations so as to get positive results today.
10) Now tell yourself, it is never too late to begin a new journey and yes! This is your rebirth. Live this life well, meaningfully and constructively.

My dear little hearts, life is beautiful. It is to be lived FULLY not FUNNILY.

Each one of us is meant to contribute and pay back to the society from which we get everything. As the earth nurtures and allows only those seeds to germinate and multiply which are healthy and buries the rotten ones only to convert them into manure and utilize it to increase its fertility; accept, multiply and give back to the society only the healthiest things you got from it and rest consume and convert to manure and utilize to enhance your strength.

REMEMBER, it is BETTER TO FAIL than TO CHEAT AND PASS with flying colours.

REMEMBER that your parents, your teachers, relatives all love you. And that YOU are TOO PRECIOUS to them to be lost for hundreds of your mistake or a year gone.

Also REMEMBER:
FAILURE IN EXAMS DOESN’T MEAN FAILURE IN LIFE and LIFE IS BEYOND THE NUMBERS ON YOUR REPORT CARDS.

“It is always better to MAKE THE HAY WHILE SUN SHINES”, means it is wise to make most of the time and opportunities available. But, if you have failed to make use of time available for whatever the reason that doesn’t mean you have failed in life.

You all must have heard that Thomas Alva Edison, the great scientist had failed 999 times before he tried 1000th time and succeeded in making the bulb which illuminates our darker part of our day.

Hey don’t take the wrong message, I am not expecting you to fail 999 times before you pass the exam

I mean to say failure is not failure as long as you are learning from it and motivated to do better.
It is never too late…

So, take charge of your life and set out for the wonderful journey called LIFE.

“YOU CAN REACH THE TOP” and I am waiting to “SEE YOU AT THE TOP”.

With loads of love and blessings
Truly yours
Usha

While on your journey, along with my words remember these beautiful lines written by Shri Harivansh Rai Bachchan ji:

The Bumble Bee Effect…

According to scientists, the bumblebee’s body is too heavy and its wing span too small. Aerodynamically, the bumblebee cannot fly. But the bumblebee doesn’t know that and it keeps flying.

In fact, bumblebees simply flap harder than other insects, increasing the amplitude of their wing strokes to achieve more lift, and use a figure-of-eight wing motion to create low-pressure vortices to pull them up.

When you don’t know your limitations, you go out and surprise yourself. In hindsight, you wonder if you had any limitations. The only limitations a person has are those that are self-imposed.

Take time to sharpen your AXES and keep growing…

Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job to a timber merchant and he got it. The pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to work.

The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees.

Woodcutter

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated by the boss’s encouraging words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.

“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.

“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”

Author: Stephen Covey
From: 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Reflection:

Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don’t take time to sharpen the “axe”. We are blessed with not one but four AXES i.e. BODY, MIND, SPIRIT & SOUL which has given human beings an edge over rest of the life forms and enabled us to rule the world. We need to sharpen these AXES regularly to remain happy & effective. And this can be done by taking care of our body; it needs nourishment, exercise & good sleep. Mind needs regular supply of fuel. Sharpening the existing skills, learning new skills, reading, listening to inspiring material can help us to maintain a sharp edge. Meditation, singing, dancing, thinking and doing something good to someone is what we all need to sharpen our spirit and soul.

Motivation1

If we fail to sharpen our “axes”, we will become dull and lose our effectiveness over the period of time.

Is happiness unhappy with you?

Is happiness unhappy with you? Are you desperately following it seeing that closer you go far it moves?

Don’t follow happiness, happiness will follow you.

Just follow these 10 A’s of Happiness.

1) Aspire

Aspire to be happy. This is the first condition to achieve happiness. Look for each opportunity that gives you even a bit of happiness. Most of the times, it happens that the opportunities simply rain but we keep crying for not getting any. And we start blaming God for not being so kind or crib over our bad luck. Remember,

“Luck is directly proportional to our alertness & ability to seize the opportunity that goes passing by.”

God gives equal opportunities to all but we don’t get any because we keep our pale upside down and then cry seeing others grabbing them up.

Happiness is for all. You have the very right to be happy. Look for those opportunities to be happy.

2) Accept

Accept that if you are not happy, no one but you is responsible for this situation; for the place where you are, for the person what you are, is because you chose to be so.

Accept that if, anyone in this universe can make you happy is no one but you.

Accept that you are the only master of yours. (Except GOD who is the master of universe)

3) Analyze

Meaning of happiness differs from person to person. For some it is money for some it may be just serving humanity. For some it may be friends for some it can be just wandering from place to place.

Analyze, what HAPPINESS means to you. What is, that makes you happy. Is it being with someone, doing something, some activity, place etc…?

4) Ask

Ask yourself,

“What stops me from achieving happiness.”?

“What do I lack in order to achieve that?”

“Do I need to get it from other sources or I have it in me?”

“What is that makes me unhappy; people, place, things, activity…?”

Most of the time what lacks is willingness to be happy and attitude of gratitude. Yes! Don’t be surprised. There are people who have everything they desire (may not deserve) but still they can’t remain happy. They keep cribbing for this or that. If you look at their faces, you will feel as if burden of the whole world’s problems is on their shoulders. They are never satisfied. They won’t even smile forget happiness. If you are one of them then one thing is confirmed that this is what happiness means to you. Then enjoy your happiness.

5) Apologize

Sometimes we carry the burden of our past mistakes or actions and keep regretting making us sullen all the time. We keep punishing ourselves. If this is what is making you sad; relieve that burden from your soul, NOW! Go to the concerned person and apologize wholeheartedly the way you express best. If you feel you express best when you write, take a pen immediately and start writing. If you are comfortable talking, pick up the phone NOW! And dial the number & express your feelings and remember to tell that you mean it. Done? Great! How are you feeling now? I am sure there is peace. Your eyes are twinkling, your heart is so light and mind is so relaxed. There is a smile on your face. Was it difficult? By doing so you have not only chosen happiness for self but also you have healed the wounds and brought about a smile on the face of that person too ,whom you  had caused pain by your words or actions.

6) Acquire

Make sincere efforts to acquire what you lack in order to achieve happiness.

7) Act

Once you have acquired what you lack, Act. For example, if I want to become a writer; what do I need? First thing what I need is a pen ( of course in working condition ) and a blank paper. Once I have a pen and a paper what or who can stop me from writing? Whether someone reads it or not, likes it or not…how does it matter? Everything else comes later.

8) Abandon

Some people find happiness in just tantalizing, humiliating, troubling others. The moment they know you dislike something or something would upset you; they make every point to say or do so as soon as they see you. Not only that, they go extra miles to convince others that how much fun they can have if they followed them.

Abandon such ‘down people’ as if they don’t even exist for you. Remember, “No one can make you feel small without your permission”

You need not to react to their actions no matter how hard they try to instigate you. After all they are doing what makes them happy. Instead take lessons from them that how sincerely they practice what makes them happy. Help them remain happy and thank GOD. How lucky you are! Even your pain brings happiness to someone.

9) Allow

Sometimes in spite of your efforts you may not get the desired result. At that moment you need to accept the very existence of GOD.

Here I wish to share this poem with you:(Not mine-author unknown)

Let Go and Let GOD do

As children bring their broken toys

With tears for us to mend

I brought my broken dreams to God,

Because he was my friend

But then, instead of leaving him

In peace to work alone,

I hung around and cried to help

With ways that were my own.

At last I snatched them back and cried,

“How can you be so slow?”

“My child,” He said, What could I do?

You never did let go.”

So Allow GOD to do things his way.

“Be happy if things are happening as per your wish and be happier if they are not because they are happening as per the GOD’s wish. He always gives us what is best for us not what we think is.”

10) Adjust

Accept the situation and  Adjust….. A little bit.

And then,

You need not follow the HAPPINESS. HAPPINESS will follow you.
